Quick Facts For 1/21/2021

Joe Biden is just one day into his presidency, and he is already displaying his duplicity and disregard for racial equality. In other words, it is just Joe being Joe.

The Washington Post ran an article outlining the changes to the Oval Office made by the Biden Administration, stating, “all incoming presidents change the decor of the largely symbolic room to offer a sense of their personality and the type of presidency they hope to have.”

While the removal of the flags of our military is a profound gesture against the unity Biden pontificates, there is a more subtle change that is even darker.

Biden requested to have paintings of former President Thomas Jefferson and former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton hung near each other to illustrate the benefits that come from differing views. Biden’s office said the paintings were twinned as “hallmarks of how differences of opinion, expressed within the guardrails of the Republic, are essential to democracy.”

It is doubtful that the Biden Administration regraded, or perhaps even cared, that Thomas Jefferson owned over 600 slaves, more than any president in history.

There are many examples of Founding Statesman whose viewpoints were often contended among each other, who didn’t own slaves — John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Thomas Paine are only three that immediately come to mind.

But Biden, perhaps in an overt act of detached irony, has chosen to demonstrate unity and equality by showcasing one of the most prolific slave owners in history, enshrined on the walls of the highest office in the country.
