1,400 Children Remain Missing from Obama’s Cages

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki may think the border crisis is comical, but documented history provides an account that is anything but amusing. The Democrats’ failure to acknowledge the destructive nature of their border policies is not without precedent.

For four years, the Democrats and their intellectually-limp bastard children in the media rambled on about Trump putting kids in cages. Historical fact, however, is that Trump used facilities built by the Obama-Biden administration, and the policy of holding and processing children in them was initiated by the Obama-Biden administration.

At the height of the controversy over Trump’s zero-tolerance policy at the border, photos that circulated online of children in the enclosures generated great anger. But those photos — by The Associated Press — were taken in 2014 and depicted some of the thousands of unaccompanied children held by President Barack Obama.

Under Obama and Biden, the Office of Refugee Resettlement, a division of the HHS Department, failed to do proper background checks of adults who claimed the children, allowed sponsors to take custody of multiple unrelated children, and regularly placed children in homes without visiting the locations.

The fact is, Obama-Biden Administration didn’t keep immigrant children safe, they put countless kids in the hands of sex traffickers. The Trump administration, however, aggressively tried to protect immigrant kids from traffickers.

Details of the detriments caused toward migrant children under the Obama-Biden Administration were outlined in a Washington Post article from January 28, 2016, titled, Obama administration placed children with human traffickers.

The Obama administration failed to protect thousands of Central American children who have flooded across the U.S. border since 2011, leaving them vulnerable to traffickers and to abuses at the hands of government-approved caretakers, a Senate investigation found.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, failed to do proper background checks of adults who claimed the children, allowed sponsors to take custody of multiple unrelated children, and regularly placed children in homes without visiting the locations, according to a 56-page investigative report by the United States Senate at the time.

“HHS places children with individuals about whom it knows relatively little and without verifying the limited information provided by sponsors about their alleged relationship with the child,” the report said.

For example, one Guatemalan boy planned to live with his uncle in Virginia. But when the uncle refused to take the boy, he ended up with another sponsor, who forced him to work nearly 12 hours a day to repay a $6,500 smuggling debt, which the sponsor later increased to $10,900, the report said.

Another boy, from El Salvador, was released to his father even though he told a caseworker that his father had a history of beating him, including hitting him with an electrical cord. The boy alerted authorities that his father was forcing him to work for little or no pay, the report said; a post-release service worker later found the boy was being kept in a basement and given little food.

Former Obama official, Cecilia Muñoz, who served as the director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, has also confirmed that Obama caged children. In an interview with NPR she admitted their were still over 1,400 kids missing and unaccounted for from the Obama era of detention. She further said:

“In 2014, we saw an enormous spike compared to what usually happens every year, in the number of kids crossing into the United States,” she said. “And we didn’t have enough shelter facilities, because we had a huge increase, so kids ended up piling up in Border Patrol lock-ups.”

Muñoz wasn’t the only Obama official to come out and publicly acknowledge the Administration’s failures. In 2019, Obama’s top former top immigration chief in charge of removing illegal immigrants said that the “cages” Democrats had accused President Trump of housing children in were the brainchild of the Obama administration.

Thomas Homan, who was Obama’s executive associate director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for nearly four years, said “That facility was built under President Obama under and Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.” Homan went on to say that he was there when the facilities were built.

Homan, who also ran Obama’s deportation operations, would further state, quote, “The kids are being house in the same facility built under the Obama administration. If you want to call them cages, call them cages. But if the left wants to call them cages and the Democrats want to call them cages then they have to accept the fact that they were built and funded in FY 2015.”

He said that the Border Patrol facilities where all illegals are initially kept “were not built to take care of children.” In fact, the recent surge of younger illegal immigrants was a new trend.

What’s more, he said that it is only a holding facility until another agency that is part of Health and Human Services can collect them. But, Congress hasn’t adequately funded HHS. And the humanitarian aid bill working through the Democrat-led House of Representatives at the time amounted to “extortion” because it drastically cut funding for border enforcement. If President Trump wanted better facilities for migrants than the ones Obama built, he would have had to agree to defund the border patrol.

The media never reported on any of that because it didn’t play into the Democrat narrative at the time and would have exposed their negligence. Just as the media failed to report on and press the Obama Administration about the whereabouts of more than 1,400 migrant children that went missing under his watch.

With the Biden Administration currently replicating the failed Obama-Biden era policies, it’s prudent to wonder how many thousands of children will go missing this time.
